A teenage couple who claimed they were collecting money for the fund for missing Rothley girl Madeleine McCann have been branded “despicable” in court. Dale Armstrong, 16, and Gareth Trainer, 18, admitted asking people in their home town of Hawick, southern Scotland, for money for the fund.
Armstrong was sentenced to 80 hours of community service at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.
A warrant was issued for the arrest of Trainer after he failed to show up for sentencing.
